Recording the stories of families
National Hellenic Museum and Hellenic Cultural Society of South Florida collaboration
The Oral History Project seeks to record the stories of Greek American immigrants and create a permanent record, an archive, available to academic researchers. The data is mainly collected through interviews and questionnaires. The person being interviewed may be the immigrant or a descendant of immigrants. The recordings will be preserved at the National Hellenic Museum’s Collections and Archives Center in Chicago.
Dr. Kelaidis, the Museum’s Director of Research and Content and Jeremy Bucher, the Collections and Archives Manager, will lead a virtual training session. All are welcome. No prior experience is required.
For those interested in preserving their stories or to participate in the virtual session, please contact us.
Fort Lauderdale - ThessalonikiSister Cities
Fort Lauderdale and Thessaloniki (Greece's second largest city) are now sister cities!
The two cities have many common characteristics, such as their ports, tourist industry, students, the organization of exhibitions and conferences, and film festivals. “This is the beginning of what will be a fruitful and long-lasting relationship between our cities and citizens” said Mayor Dean Trantalis.
We would like to thank Russell Weaver, President of the Greater Ft Lauderdale Sister Cities Alliance for inviting us to participate at the Las Olas March Parade on March 8, 2025. We look forward to working together to promote cultural ties and celebrate our shared heritage.
