SOCRATES NOW is a 80-minute solo performance-discourse, which captures the essence of Socratic ethics in an accessible and engaging manner. First presented by EllinikoTheatro in New York in 2004, it has since been performed to great acclaim at the United Nations, the Athens Agora, the NBC Today Show, on PBS’s The Greeks and in countless theaters, festivals and cultural centers worldwide. Leading world universities have combined the performance with interactive seminars on Socratic ethics and how they apply to our society today, led by award winning actor, writer, director and producer Yannis Simonides.

Born in Constantinople and raised in Athens, YANNIS SIMONIDES is a graduate of Yale University and the Yale School of Drama. He has served as professor and chair of Undergraduate Drama and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (NYU), director of Hellenic Public Radio in New York, and founding director of the Greek Theater of New York (Greek Theater Foundation – ellinikotheatro.org), which this year celebrated its 45th anniversary of continuous service in the US, Greece, and countries worldwide. Simonides has been awarded an Emmy by the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and has been named Ambassador of Hellenism by the city of Athens for his lifelong service to Greek arts and Letters worldwide.
